MBBS, FRACS (Urol)
Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon
Conrad sees adult patients with a variety of urological conditions. He has a subspecialty interest in uro-oncology and is experienced at all forms of urological robotic surgery. He has a public appointment at the Western Hospital and operates on private patients at the Epworth Freemasons.
Conrad grew up in Melbourne's Northwest suburbs, attending Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School. Following his stepfather and stepbrother into medicine, he graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1999 (MBBS). Conrad completed his training in Urological Surgery in 2010 (FRACS) after training at the Royal Melbourne, Geelong and Austin hospitals and completing a uro-oncology fellowship at Monash Medical Centre. He then moved to the UK and undertook a comprehensive two year fellowship in robotic surgery at the Hertfordshire and South Bedfordshire Urological Cancer Centre (HSBUCC), where he became proficient in all aspects of robotic surgery, completing over 100 cases as the primary surgeon.
Upon completion of his fellowship, Conrad was invited to join the consultant staff at Guy's Hospital in London, the UK's largest and best known robotic surgery unit. During his time at Guy's, Conrad regularly performed robotic surgery for prostate, kidney and bladder cancer. He was one of the UK's pioneers of total intracorporeal urinary diversion for robotic cystectomy, being one of the first in the UK to become proficient in the technique. He has trained several other surgeons in robotic surgery and was a faculty member of the robotics course at the University College London.
Conrad is up to date with the latest diagnostics for prostate cancer including transperineal prostate biopsy and multiparametric MRI. He is a proponent of active surveillance for low grade prostate cancer to prevent over treatment of the condition wherever possible. He also offers laser surgery for benign prostatic enlargement.
Academically, Conrad has published 28 peer reviewed papers, two textbook chapters and has presented 35 posters and oral presentations at national and international meetings. He is a regular reviewer for the International Journal of Surgery (IJS) and the British Journal of Urology International (BJUI). He has recently been appointed to the BJUI editorial board for 2014.
